Emilia Hart has expertly woven a story following the lives of women separated by centuries, but connected by a legacy of power.
It was a well-paced and absorbing read, with cleverly interwoven narratives that celebrate resilience and female empowerment. The writing is beautifully evocative and achingly deep - the descriptions of magic and nature are delicious.
I was highly invested in all three main characters, and their strength and character growth in male dominated worlds.
The feminist undertones were as breath-taking as they were thought provoking: "Weyward, they called us, when we would not submit, would not bend to their will. But we learned to wear the name with pride.”
It is terrifying to contemplate a time when superstition was far more prevalent than common sense, and the survival and eventual blossoming of each of the characters set against this history was exquisite.
I devoured this book, and am still thinking about it days later.
